The Jab Step

Luke 8:9, 11-15 9 His disciples asked him what this parable meant. 11 “This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is God’s Word. 12 The seeds that fell on the footpath represent those who hear the message, only to have the devil come and take it away from their hearts and prevent them from believing and being saved. 13 The seeds on the rocky soil represent those who hear the message and receive it with joy. But since they don’t have deep roots, they believe for a while, then they fall away when they face temptation. Luke 8:9, 11-15 14 The seeds that fell among the thorns represent those who hear the message, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the cares and riches and pleasures of this life. And so they never grow into maturity. 15 And the seeds that fell on the good soil represent honest, good-hearted people who hear God’s word, cling to it, and patiently produce a huge harvest. (NLT) Precepts. Prayer. Promptings. Pastor. Partners. Present Situations & Circumstances Patience (“…bring forth fruit with patience.” KJV) Romans 5:1-4 1…Lord Jesus Christ:  2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.  3And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation (Greek = Pressure) worketh patience;  4And patience, experience…(KJV). Hebrews 6:12 12 That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises. James 1:3-4 3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.  4But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. Patience: Greek = Cheerful Endurance. Hupo = Under ; Meno → to stay, remain, bear (trials), have fortitude (mental and emotional strength in facing difficulty, adversity, danger, or temptation). An ability or willingness to suppress restlessness or annoyance when confronted with delay (deferment, interruption, detention, downtime, hungup, hindered, held-up, on hold, holding pattern, impeded, jammed, lagging behind, traffic jam, obstructed, postponed, put off, set back, a showstopper, stalled, stoppage, suspension, tied-up, waiting). Biblical examples: Abraham (Hebrews 6:13) waited 25 years. Joseph waited 13 years. Moses waited 80 years. David waited 13 years. (1 Samuel 22:2 = in debt, distress, discontent) Jesus waited 30 years. (Luke 2:40 = Grew in wisdom = Prov. 4:7) We will...

Identity Theft

Genesis 28: 16 When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I was not aware of it.” 17 He was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven.” 18 Early the next morning Jacob took the stone he had placed under his head and set it up as a pillar and poured oil on top of it. 19 He called that place Bethel… (NIV) Last week I began my new season in the Lord for the first time with a personal retreat. For a portion of three days, I spent my time with the Lord in a building appropriately named “Bethel”. God opened my eyes to some wonderful things He was doing in my life. And though this was a great experience where I truly met with the Lord, I find that too many people tend to be like Jacob. They may be having an actual experience of God moving in their lives but yet they are unable to identify that it truly is the Lord. How sad it is to observe those from whom Satan has stolen their ability to identify where God is actually at work in their lives. And this is precisely why this evening we will have a discussion on Chapter 6 of the book “Experiencing God” entitled God is at Work Around You. Jacob’s experience was the beginning of an identity change which was completed in Genesis Chapter 32. And if we cannot identify where God is at work in our lives, then we will never attain the true identity of who we are in...

Experiencing GOD – chapter 6

This entry is part 2 of 4 in the series Experiencing GODGOD Is At Work Around You Stop, Look and Listen! Recently a friend told me that after they moved to the suburbs, their children complained that they could not sleep because of the noise. Each night they were hearing the sound of crickets and other nocturnal creatures. In their previous home the children were used to hearing the sound of the inner city; cars, buses and music blaring. The crickets were probably there too, but could not be heard over the other noise. Similarly as a teen I used to marvel at how much I could see in the night sky over Martha’s Vineyard. There were thousands of stars and shooting stars in every glance. Those same stars were over my home in New York too, but I could not see them because of the visual noise created by the city lights. Unfortunately, we often can not see GOD at work around us because our own activity makes too much noise. If we would take time to be still and sit quietly before Him, we would see Him at work and would hear His invitation to join him. Next time that you are at school, work, in your community or with your family pause for a moment so you can see where GOD is at work. Then listen for His invitation and join...
